Sanctuary Pigs

Andromeda

This baby was being housed with six adult rabbits in a bad mom n' pop petstore in Federal Heights. Among other problems, (being fed only rabbit pellets, no hay, no Vit. C, no shelter), she had been kicked or trampled by one of them and was severly injured, bruised across her abdomen from knee to knee. Without the use of her back legs, she had lain lifeless in a corner, unable to reach food or water. We were told 'her buddy' had died two days previous of 'unknown causes', and his passing was the cause of her malnutrition. Ongoing investigations are being conducted. Since coming to Wheeky Inn, with handfeeding, vitamin C supplements, and a quiet place to convalesce, she has regained her will to eat on her own, and her legs have healed nicely.

2006 - Annie has become the fattest pig in the herd. She lives in a cushy pad with three girlfriends in the penthouse suite.

In sanctuary, we also have:

Steiner- A boar from LA. He's been here two years, and as much as we have worked with him, he still bites people. He also cannot be housed with other pigs.

Seven of 8- A boar born to one of the LA pregnant mommas. He is lumpy also. His remained open for a long time for flushing, but has since started some skin regrowth.

Piggy Roo - A sow from Atlanta. She has had some issues with abscesses on her face which have been successfully treated with antibiotics and flushing. At the moment, she is bump-free.

Blueberry- A 'rescue' cast-off from some lady in western Colorado. Most likely a breeder cast-off. Came as part of a mother-daughter pair. She's the mother. Has major hairloss but no symptoms of illness, lumps, bugs, or anything else. We suspected cysts, but no. She's still spunky and eats well. She's just nekkid.

Rigel

Large petstore chains often neglect the animals they sell. This baby is one of them. This guy had pellets, but NO water or hay, and a nasty fungal infection on his ear. If left untreated, it would have spread over his entire body, causing him to scratch relentlessy, eventually ending in his bloody death just for some relief. Not that they would have noticed. . .
With diligent upkeep, his ear has healed completely, and is growing into a healthy, fat, big piggy.

2006-Rigel aka BP has proven to be an alpha pig. He won't tolerate living with another pig. He lives in spacious bachelor digs 'across the hall' from Lashes. He still has some issues, like a cheesy lump that constantly grows. It's been flushed and left open so we may clean the cheesiness out weekly.

Lashes and Bugsy

These two girls are from Santa Clara, California, Silicon Valley Humane Society that had run out of room. The Wheeky Inn drove to California and back in three days to save them, and eighteen others from being euthanized. Four other pigs from the Monterey laboratory breeder confiscation from 2001also made the trip. Both Lashes and Bugsy had lice, mites, hairloss and were malnutritioned. Bugsy, at only a few weeks old, was already pregnant, and delivered just five weeks after arriving in Colorado. Both babies died during the difficult birth.

2006-Lashes is also an alpha pig. She goes ninja with teeth bared when placed with anyone else. She loves to flirt and chat with Rigel across the hall.

2006-Bugsy is one slinky chick. She lives in the penthouse with Fat Annie, Lily from LA,
and Piggy Roo, the southern belle from Georgia. Bugsy is also a lumpy pig, but hers is not growing, and she's still spunky as ever. We'll leave it untouched unless it starts to cause her some distress.
